Still here. Summer is coming to an end and it's almost time for school to start. I'm taking AutoCAD - computer-assisted design. Who says you can't start a new career at 57? :)

I loved it! I could squee for days, but I got sidetracked while looking for more cast info online. I came across www.trekyourself,com, where you can turn your picture into Kirk, Spock, Uhura or Nero! So instead of my own photo, I decided to search through my SGA pix and came up with this! Vulcan John and Romulan Rodney: bitter enemies who are destined to become lovers? You decide!

Gotta love photoshop!!

ETA: correction of url.

Why not? Everyone likes a little ego boo now and then... :)

One little compliment can make you feel amazing.

So give me a compliment, anything in the entire world, even that my shoelaces are pretty. Put this in your journal, so I can return the favour. And once you get some comments, put that entry in a memory or tag so that when you are feeling down, you can go to that entry for a quick pick-me-up and a smile.

All comments are screened, so whatever you write is just between you and me. :) ♥

Team Sheppard
When you see this post, post a quote from SGA on your journal.

John: I can't.

It's getting closer...

fishbaum (on the left) and I got our marriage license today, the first official day that same gender couples were allowed to do so here in Calif. Although I was kinda expecting protesters, instead we had a warm wonderful reception -- folks from several of the local UU churches were on hand as a cheering section. They cheered us and gave us flowers and cookies and even a tiny bottle of champagne!

Now we have just a little over 5 weeks until the wedding. :)

A Sheppard without his McKay is like a...well, Sheppard without his McKay! But all has been rectified by a trip to the Metrotown Mall. There at the Build A Bear workshop was Rodney, just waiting to be adopted and taken home to his John. How appropriate that John found his true love in Canada! Here is a picture of the happy couple, already snuggled up in bed together. :)

BTW, [info]fishbaum and I are here for the Stargate con and we just saw Kavan Smith -- he is a riot!! Tonight Jason and Bam Bam are doing a stunt show, so I'll let you know if there was any blood drawn. :) Tomorrow we get to visit the set and then tomorrow evening Jason will do his panel. I know, it's a tough way to spend a weekend, but somebody's gotta do it.

Oh John you quack me up!

While strolling through Disneyland with the grandkids, I saw him -- John Sheppard -- staring out at me from the Build A Bear workshop. A short while later, he was stuffed, clothed in his black tee (with the solar system on it), black pants and aviator shades and cruising around on his skateboard.

The lovely [info]fishbaum and I spent the day at the BSG/SG1 con in Burbank reveling in the wonder that is Joe Flanigan. *drool* First we had our photo taken with him: 50 bucks for a chance to grope The Flan? Worth every penny!! My god is that man gorgeous!! He wore his (what we have now deemed) official con shirt: the same checkered shirt he wore at the Aussie and New Zealand cons.

Next came his panel. [info]fishbaum took some photos, but from our cheap seats they weren't very clear. She did manage to sneak some bits and pieces of video though, which she will be posting later. One thing is for sure: The Flan is a terrific public speaker. He is witty, charming and very attentive to his audience.

A few highlights of the Q&A: (Please excuse my rambling)

When asked how his Malibu home fared in the recent fires, he said his home was fine but his son’s classroom burned down. He went surfing during the fire (“It was amazing and apocalyptic.”) His thoughts were “Save my house and kids or go surfing? Let’s go surfing.”

He recommends that fans go to Gate World to express their opinions about the show because that’s the site the producers seem to use most to gauge the fandom.

When asked if he, like Sheppard, likes turkey sandwiches, he replied “No” and launched into a long story about how when he was between 7-9 years old on his parents’ ranch, his dad woke him up very early one morning and said it was time to kill the turkeys. He went out to the pen they were kept in and had to wrestle them (They were bigger than I was!) to the chopping block and kill them and he ended with the fact that it took about 5-6 years to get the smell of the turkeys out of his head, so he still doesn’t like turkey. He said he also has a story about bunnies that he refers to as Watership Down, but he would spare us that story.

When asked about his infamous hair, he treated us to another long story about how he plays an FBI agent on the Women’s Murder Club series and they worked at keeping his hair down, but that it would always start springing up within an hour (boing, boing, boing) of being styled. Then he talked about how when he was filming Providence, the hair people went crazy trying to make it lie flat. (“He’s being very uncooperative.”) Finally they brought in the special effects people who used some sort of industrial strength polymer on his hair, but even that lost its effectiveness after a while. The Hair has a life of its own!

When asked about pranks on the set, he said the director deliberately didn’t say cut during the McKay/Beckett kiss just to string it out. He said the same thing happened to him when he was filming Murphy Brown, that he and Candice Bergen had a kissing scene at the end of an episode and it kept going on and on (“It didn’t last this long in rehearsal!”) and then the audience started cracking up and they realized the director was just jerking them around. He said he couldn’t tell us about the funniest prank on the set, because it involved him and Jason plastering David’s trailer with photos from “a sordid type of magazine”. Since it was in response to David’s nervousness about the impending birth of his child, we concluded the photos were probably “beaver” shots from porno magazines. Oh those boys...

Flanigan isn’t his real name. He was born Joseph Dunnigan III, but his mom and dad divorced when “I was about a day old” and then his mom married his stepdad when he was around 5 and his stepdad adopted him and that’s how he became a Flanigan. (“From one Irishman to another.”) His mom is 64 and his stepdad is 85 and he says both are as tough as nails.

And my favorite: When asked if Sheppard is a psychotic killer or a pretty pretty princess, he replied, “Some of both.”

After the panel, I went through the autograph line and got one more chance to see The Flan up close and personal. I asked him how come it is that he has 3 boys and his hair isn’t completely gray like mine, and he said “It will be soon.”

We did get to see him one last time as he passed by on the way to the men’s room (with his bodyguard!) ETA: The guy wasn't a real bodyguard, just a con rep assigned to make sure no one pestered The Flan while he was doing his business. ;)

And thus concludes our blissful day of fannish fun. It will probably take days for me to stop smiling...
